Redshirt freshman Taylor Martinez has been announced as the starting quarterback for Nebraska's opener against Western Kentucky. Coach Bo Pelini has kept his decision on the starter under wraps. But a half-hour before kickoff, Martinez introduced himself as the starter during a video presentation on Memorial Stadium's big-screen scoreboard.

Kenjon Barner replaced the suspended running back for the 11th-ranked Ducks and ran for a career-high 147 yards and four touchdowns before catching another score as Oregon opened the season with a 72-0 rout of New Mexico on Saturday. Oregon's point total tied the Autzen Stadium record the Ducks set in 1999 against Nevada.

Tre' Newton ran for three touchdowns, quarterback Garrett Gilbert was up and down in his first college start and No. 5 Texas overcame a slow start to beat Rice 34-17 on Saturday. Gilbert, who threw four interceptions filling in for Colt McCoy in the loss to Alabama in the BCS title game, didn't turn the ball over in this one.
